Poughkidsie

frequently asked questions

Please see below for the answers to these common questions about Poughkidsie:

What is Poughkidsie?

Poughkidsie is an indoor playspace offering parties, classes and special events, designed to offer families a safe and clean outlet for imaginative and creative play. (No batteries here!)

Please note that walk-in hours are only available during certain school closures and special programs. Poughkidsie does not offer regular walk-in hours.

Our space is also home to The Create Workspace, a creative arts studio, and Coffee Studio, a small café offering hand-crafted coffee drinks, baked goods, and light snacks.

What ages are recommended?

Birthday parties in Poughkidsie's Village are recommended for children turning ages 1-8. All ages are welcome at Poughkidsie, and we've seen everyone from babies through 12-year-olds enjoying the Village.

Do you offer walk-in play?

Poughkidsie is generally open only for parties, classes and scheduled events. We do offer open walk-in hours during certain school closures and special programs. Please check our calendar for current availability.

Did you used to be open for walk-ins?

Yes, but limiting walk-in hours has allowed us to focus our attention on what we do best: parties and events! We still have tons of opportunities for fun at Poughkidsie, from family movies to dance parties to superhero days to Halloween costume workshops.

Why do I need socks?

Everyone at Poughkidsie must wear socks, including party guests, attendees of classes and events, and all adults. This is to limit the amount of dirt brought into the playspace and to protect the hands of our crawlers!

Do you offer parties?

Yes! Not only do we offer them, we're proud to have received multiple "Best of Hudson Valley" awards for our parties. Click here to learn more about our party packages.

Where are you located?

Poughkidsie is located within the Arlington section of Poughkeepsie, just north of Vassar College and across the arterial from Holy Trinity Church. Click here for map and directions.

Are you a daycare?

During school hours, Poughkidsie is home to the Carriage House Preschool Program, offering both speech & language therapy and traditional preschool programs. Click here to learn more about Carriage House.

Do you offer classes?

Yes! We offer a new semester of classes each season. To see the current offerings, click here for our Calendar.

Do you have bouncy houses?

No, our emphasis at Poughkidsie is on imaginative and creative play.

What is there for crawlers to do?

During parties and events, crawlers are welcome to experience all that the Village has to offer! They may particularly enjoy our "school bus" at the back of the Village as a perfect opportunity to practice gross motor skills, climbing stairs, and sliding. Additionally, near the school bus, we have a set of foam blocks and a small foam climbing area that is perfect for crawlers and for tummy time.

What type of bathroom facilities do you have?

We have three family-style gender-neutral bathrooms. Each is outfitted with a changing table and potty seat.

Where do I park and how do I enter?

We have a large parking lot that leads directly to our main entrance. Click here for map and directions.

My child loves art. What do you have?

We share our space with our sister business, The Create Workspace, which offers crafting parties, classes and events for all ages, from children through adults. Click here to visit The Create Workspace site. Class schedules change each season; check our calendar for current offerings.

What do you have in your café?

Coffee Studio offers hand-crafted beverages from local Hudson Valley providers, baked goods, and small snacks. We do not have a restaurant kitchen and cannot prepare meals.

Do you have anything for children with food allergies to eat?

We try to offer a variety of snacks to accommodate different dietary needs, including gluten free and kosher snacks. You are also welcome to bring your own snacks to eat within designated areas. Please remember that products containing peanuts are strictly forbidden.

Poughkidsie is happy to offer allergen-friendly party options, but special orders must be placed in advance by the family hosting the party. If your child has any special dietary requirements, please notify the person hosting your party at the time you RSVP.

What kind of coffee do you have?

At Coffee Studio, we grind and brew our coffee to order, offering espresso-based drinks and hand-brewed offerings (Aeropress and pourover). Our beans are roasted locally by Poughkeepsie's very own North River Roasters. We are also a pick-up location for their Community Supported Coffee Roaster program.

What is there for adults to do?

Free wifi, a reading library, and comfortable seating are available for adults to enjoy. We also offer classes and events each season, including wine tastings, trivia nights, and Pinterest Parties; check our calendar for current offerings.
